This course is designed for complete beginners or anyone who would like to learn eco printing / botanical printing. I learned eco printing reading India Flint book, attending workshops of Sheila Smith and Irit Dulman while experimenting further.

Course suitability:
This course is principally aimed at those with basic felting experience. However, it is also suitable for complete beginners.
Main information:
This course is designed for complete beginners or anyone who would like to learn eco printing printing, i.e. eco printing and medium printing.
This course is intensive 5 weeks and students will learn various techniques, such as:
- fabric preparation for natural dye and eco printing;
- introduction to plants for eco printing;
- eco printing (botanical printing) – using various techniques;
- eco printing (botanical printing)– printing large pieces of fabric; and
- eco printing (botanical printing)– printing on garments.
5 weeks programme includes:
Week One - 13 June. Introduction to materials, mordants and plans. Printing on paper.
We will mordant paper, cotton and silk in preparation for the next weeks eco printing and natural dye.
Students will be printing on paper trying simple eco printing techniques.
We also will be dyeing fabric using natural dyes including indigo.
Week Two - 20 June. Eco printing on fabric (botanical printing) - working with samples.
Students will first be working with samples, to build up a reference of different techniques. Some of fabric will be premordant and some not.
Week Three - 27 June. Eco printing (botanical printing)- achieving sharp print and printing on large pieces of fabric.
Students will be experimenting further with various eco printing techniques and will be learning how to print on large pieces of fabric. I learned majority of techniques to achieve sharp prints from Irit Dulman and very grateful to her for her knowledge.
Week Four - 4 July. Eco printing (botanical printing)- printing on garments.
Students will be learning simple fabric design and how to print on garments.
Week Five - 11 July. Eco printing (botanical printing)- printing on garments.
Students will be experimenting further with printing on garments.
5 weeks course recap.
You will work in a small group, with a maximum of six - eight students group.
By the end of the course students will have all the knowledge and skills needed to start eco printing at home. It is also the perfect time to experiment further with so many leaves and flowers around us.
