Lena's craft feltmaking workshops
Which felt workshop?
Workshop information is presented here. No matter what stage you are at in your relationship with wet felt, working with other feltmakers, both tutors and students, is always rewarding. Each workshop is an opportunity to try something new. If you have never felted before, you may prefer to try a Felted Picture Workshop.
Armed with your new-found knowledge of how to felt, you will then be ready to enjoy all of the other craft and feltmaking classes run by Lena in the North East.
You can also book a workshop for yourself and friends. Please get in touch.
Where craft workshops North East?
All craft felt making and craft workshops take place in Lena's Studio at Arts Centre Washington.
Safety during felt making, craft workshops.
Lena will advise of any hazardous substances and a brief introduction to health and safety will be given on arrival.
Felt making, craft workshops process?
Lena’s felt making workshops include a full demonstration on techniques for blending wools, using other fibres, laying out the felt, designing templates (where appropriate) and fine finishing. Lena helps you with your design, gives suggestions on the use of colour and advice on felt making and other techniques. She will encourage you to experiment and take risks.
Items to bring for felt classes?
Although most equipment and materials are provided, there are one or two essentials that you need to have with you. Please check the ‘What to bring’ section for each workshop.
You are always welcome to bring along any fibres to experiment with, fluffy knitting yarns such as mohair are particularly good. If you have any perished silk scarves or hankies, they can be used to great effect to create texture and interest.
Throughout the craft workshops, there will be tea, coffee and biscuits available. Please provide your own lunch.
Please remember to bring a notebook and pen for taking notes during the demonstration.
Finishing project during wet felting classes?
Lena aims to finish the workshops by 5.00. However, if it is obvious that another half hour or so is needed to give everyone time to complete their work, then that’s fine. Some projects can take longer than others, and no one likes going home with unfinished pieces, especially after investing so much time, imagination and hard work into their creation.
With that in mind, it’s always best not to have any urgent appointments to go to directly after a workshop.
